The fruit has recently become a popular flavoring for beverages and there is much interest in growing the fruit as a commercial crop. This is the white pulped variety. The plant is a vining cactus growing either out of the soil or as an epiphyte, with aerial roots. Plants are tolerant of short frosts and can be grown in subtropical climates.
